Lesson 10 Teacher View

Teacher Notes: Weekends, Hobbies, and Switching Off

General life English: boundaries, hobbies, and flexible social plans. Same lesson architecture as 6–8, but the centre of gravity shifts to solo speaking via random topic flashcards (12 prompts with guiding words and expressions).

Timing (in-class) About 75–90 minutes; reserve 20–25 minutes for flashcards and graduated speaking levels.
Substitute / self-study Students can run readings → vocabulary → practice → flashcards alone; homework asks for three voice recordings.
Main aim Learners speak 60–90 seconds without a script, using prompts—not only repeating reading characters.

Topic flashcards

How to run them in class

  • Solo mode (recommended): Each learner uses their own screen or you screen-share one card; they speak while others work silently on the next card on paper.
  • Round-robin: One student speaks 60s; class listens; quick praise + one recast; next topic.
  • Timer: “Start 60s timer” is optional—use when students stop too early.
  • Guiding words: Tell students they are springboards, not lines to read in order.
  • Deck: 12 topics in JSON on the student page; “New topic” shuffles without repeat until the deck resets.

Solo speaking

Praise fluency and effort first. One correction per turn maximum. For flashcards, recast errors after the 60s—not mid-flow unless they ask for help.
